Cadet Nitaar

"No that would never work" Nitaar mumbled to himself as he examined the simulation on his pad again. Nitaar had stolen himself to a quieter deck with less traffic and unpredictable humans. Nitaar had nothing against humans but they were illogical and seemed to act out of emotion, Nitaar knew this already but had never been around them, observed them, seen the way they sleep and talk. This was indeed a strange new world Nitaar had found himself in, No matter Nitaar had work to focus on rather than hanging around the social hubs as the humans do. Sitting on a bench near a large window Nitaar looked out toward the stars wondering what was out there. Nitaar had always wanted to be an explorer and had been progressing well in his classes and tests showing the right aptitude for a tactical officer. Nitaar hoped the humans we would serve with were more Vulcan in a way, allowing for a solid line of reasoning before speaking as his classmates seemed to do. Nitaar returned his gaze to the pad and re-ran the simulation. "Perhaps if I change this..." Nitaar continued to speak out loud to himself. eventually, three distinct beeps from the pad were heard. Nitaar raised his eyebrows. "Interesting I appear to have worked out the solution." Nitaar tucked the pad under his left arm and began to walk down the corridor to the elevator.

Arriving several decks higher Nitaar exited the elevator and was heading towards his class, The fundamental practice of avoiding a warp core breach. Nitaar entered the classroom and found a seat, his classmates were late as usual and for some reason, he was always put with humans. Nitaar didn't understand the full reasoning but this ough to do him good. To become culturally aware of Human behaviours, alas the class was long but educational. His classmates rushed to answers in the strange way in which humans behave with lines such as "oh like this?" In an elevated and quickened tone. However, the solution required more thought and through logic, the true answer was derived by Nitaar. While not an engineering-specific answer, the teacher was impressed and told a tale about the same procedure of avoiding a warp core breach be performed on an old 2200's vessel. The name slipped the teacher's mind at the time as he continued with class. The humans seemed to make some quiet remarks under their breaths about how studying history is a waste of time. At the end of class, Nitaar asked to see the teacher, Nitaar showed the teacher the work he had been doing on his private pad. Nitaar had been planning a new Ship to ship combat manoeuvre which involved the use of holographic intruders on board the enemy vessel to create a load of distractions. Removing the need for an away team to risk their lives. The teacher read through it and laughed before proclaiming that I shouldn't rely on holograms too much, after all the enemy vessel may not have the right set up to allow holograms to wander around the ship. Nitaar acknowledged his teacher's advice and quietly closed the simulation never to look at it again. Nitaar now knew he had to come up with a foolproof plan to impress his teachers.

Later that night Nitaar made his way to one of the bars where his classmates like to spend their time. This was one of the first times Nitaar had been to a bar as he walked cautiously up to the bar and sat down at a stool. An eager bartender served a Synthohol beer. Nitaar found the taste interesting and began to wonder about what he could do to impress his teachers. Nitaar while sipping the synthohol beer came to a realisation. Maybe he could shin through in other aspects, such as on the survival course or during holodeck sessions. The following day Nitaar spent almost all of his free time in the holodeck running through training situations. Applying logic was needed to complete the scenarios, eventually, after several days, his efforts were noted by one of his teachers. Nitaar was racking up a small reputation for his by the book attitude to problem-solving. Unlike his human classmates who always rush towards a similar end, combat. Nitaar wasn't opposed to combat but, if a diplomatic solution could've found Nitaar would attempt that option first. Nitaar was starting to stand out in his class for his routine use of the holodeck to practise his decision-making skills, Eventually, he and his class practised together and his classmates were a mess. The scenario in practise was one involving a borg encounter, a fight or flight scenario. A Lack of training had lead to a near failure until Nitaar took initiative. Nitaar started to order his classmates around despite not playing the captains role. "Initiate the Picard manouvre!" Nitaar shouted to the helms man. With some hesitation, the classmate playing captain nodded to the helmsman, A second later the helmsman had performed the Picard manoeuvre. "Firing torpedos" Nitaar explained as two torpedos launched and hit the borg cube. "Helm get us out of here. Heading 458 Warp factor 7." Without hesitation, the helmsman followed the orders and Nitaar received credit for stepping up when in the face of failure where his classmates simply stood in shock.  Later that day the student in the captain's role approached Nitaar asking for advice. Nitaar took the student to the holodeck and they practised together building a friendship and mutual respect. Eventually, the entire class were practising on the holodeck. Nitaar final understood that humans aren't driven by logic, no instead humans are drawn by the pursuit of bettering themselves and the challenge of being the best they can be was their main drive. Nitaar had a newfound respect for humans but, still found some of their tendencies such as reliance on emotions in decision making, to be highly illogical.
