The Emerald Fern Spa

[1340 Hours]

Commodore Juliet St. Clair would never get tired of the contentment and bliss she felt when undergoing spa treatments. Massages, face treatments, manicure, pedicure; after any and all of them she felt like a whole new woman.

While a spa had opened up on the Devron Fleet Yards in the previous year, the woman who ran it was a Trill. She was a great conversationalist, but those cold hands made treatments uncomfortable at best.

After the opening ceremony, Juliet wandered the promenade of Starbase Bravo and was pleased to find the Emerald Fern Spa. It offered all the services of her favourite facilities on Earth. It was owned by a Bajoran woman, but many of employees were Romulans — refugees whose histories had been thoroughly checked before they had been permitted employment aboard a Starfleet facility. Juliet spoke to one, a woman named Curith, who had apparently run a successful beauty salon that served the colonial government on the planet from which she had been displaced. Even on the outskirts, one could find high society where appearances mattered.

An hour later, she lay utterly relaxed on a massage chair, wearing naught but a soft white robe against which her blue locks shone brightly. Curith was exfoliating the skin on her feet and calves, while a Romulan man whose name she hadn’t learned yet, massaged her left hand in preparation for applying new fake fingernails.

She hoped other officers would take advantage of this amazing experience. Most starships lacked a dedicated facility such as this, and holodecks couldn’t compare to receiving such royal treatment.
